Each piece of artwork in this collection is crafted using preserved moss, faux plastic trees, real crystals, and other flora and fauna accessories. These are Leah's sacred art gardens that never require watering, just an occasional dusting. Each piece represents a unique place on Earth, sometimes inspired by Leah's dreams. These artworks pay homage to the greatest art of all—nature.
In my quest to bring the outdoors inside without the hassle of bugs or maintenance, I envisioned creating art like this after receiving faux plastic trees from our Yaya. It's often the smallest things that have the most significant impact.
This collection marks my first major exploration into mixed media landscapes. Landscape art has a unique ability to heal and transport viewers to real or imaginary places. The first piece of preserved moss art I created was a tactile landscape for a legally blind friend. I challenged myself to make a piece that could spark imagination through touch. When I showed her the artwork, she discovered the tree, clouds, and grass through her hands, sparking joy for both of us in that moment. This memory remains one of my favorite art experiences and has driven me to continue creating this collection, chasing that same feeling.
These landscapes also remind me of my great-grandmother, who was a painter focused on landscapes. Growing up, I admired her artwork and often wondered if she painted from imagination or real-life references. Although I can't ask her now, I remember her spirit fondly and have dedicated this collection to her.
For my next collection, I hope to focus a bit more on real places
Perhaps being inspired by our glorious National Parks.
